M46 driveshaft question 200 1979

Hello partners in the collective mind,

Is the M46 driveshaft the same length, wether from a 240 or a 740?

As yesterday and tomorrow (maybe), thanks!

Pierre the two are not interchangable. 740's put the slip sleeve in the shaft in the reverse orientation to the 240, and the center support is different. I've got few used ones in stock for the 240 with that trans.

      M46 driveshaft question 200 1979

Hi Rhys, I hope you are well.

There is a 240 with M46 at a local salvage yard. It is conveniently flipped on it's side. I will go check it out today. If we didn't live at opposite ends of the country and I wasn't in a hurry, I would definitely get a driveshaft from you.

How much should I reasonnably offer for the local driveshaft?

      Thanks.

P.S.: I got my flywheel lightened per your indications. Approx. 3.25 pounds came off. Considering that all of the weight came off from the very outside edge of the flywheel, I expect those 3.25 pounds might have as much effect as the usual 5-6 pounds removed by skimming the entire back-surface, from the center to near the ring-gear. We'll see...
