May have to sell... 700 1990

I may be taking a new job and getting a company car (Ford Taurus or something similar). I would really like to keep my 1990 744Ti, but am wondering what I could sell it for. It has always been garaged and only has 66,000 original miles on it. It is in pristine condition with a few minor parking lot dings. The interior is in almost new condition with no dash cracks and a few bad spots on the leather seats. New tires, recently tuned-up, etc.

Any ideas?

You could probly get $2000 if your lucky for the dash alone, the only way to get an uncracked dash is to look high and low for one without it and thats rare enough or order one for $2000 from overseas, id either keep it or price it high as in pristine condition with a dash that isnt cracked is actually worth something then on top with only 66k on the spedo its like a dream come true for some people who like these cars to find one like that, i personally would be willing to pay 4k for a car like that, fortunally though mine has treated me well and i was able to buy a new uncracked dash, if your going to sell it id recomend putting it up on ebay so people in whats say california get a shot at it as volvo's out here go for way more then anywhere else except maybe new york.
good luck.

Is there a chance you can negotiate for more money in leu of the company car? When it comes right down to it, it's all about money. If they don't need to supply you with a car, that's a big savings to them. Plus if you use your car for business, you can usually deduct the milage. My wife is a real estate agent, and her milage deduction adds up to thousands of dollars each year.

Just food for thought.

Like most things, it's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. Go to kbb.com and see what turns up. You could do what I'm doing and check the local classifieds to see what asking prices are like for similar cars. I'm finding out that my pristine '95 855t is going to bring substantially less than I paid for it just a year ago. In general, in this economy, used car prices are down and it's a buyer's market. So if you own it outright, keeping it as a spare might make sense but I see you have a V90 also. If you're not hurting for money you might consider donating it and getting the tax break. I think the receipt might be for wholesale price.

Good luck.

Erwin,

I know what you mean about the used car market. I have a friend who is a car dealer (this is how I bought the V90) and he takes me out to a dealer auction anytime I need a car. You'd be sick if you knew how much the cars sell for at auction and how much the dealer lists them for. It is truly outrageous.

i don't know about that. I would keep it if i were you. 66K and almost pristine condition.....'cmon. I would see if you could trade a hobbyist for another car. Unless of course you need the $$$.

BTW - Congratz on the new jobby job! That's a pretty big feat considering the economic times.

Thanks! I may take your advice and hold onto it. I'll probably regret it if I sell.
