Would this work??? 200

Okay,

Last fall I bought an 82 242 GLT with a scant 121,000 km on it. I have been trying to think of ways of making it go faster without tampering too much with it's rare B23E set up. Then I came across this picture on Bilsport's website. Who thinks this is possible?? I'm sure it is, but what would I have to paly around with to make it reliable and liveable. It would save thousands of dollars and hours of rewiring, different heads, intakes, etc...

It is possible, and there are people out there doing it, I know someone who is in the process of gathering parts to turbocharge a B230F powered 240. I would suggest you buy Corkey Bell's book Maximum Boost and read it through a couple of times then decide if you are up to the chore.

It is a little more complex than just bolting on a turbo but if you take all factors into consideration and have a good head for wrenching it's a doer. If I remember right the B-23E is a very high compression engine which is not the best candidate to start with, extra precautions will have to be taken to prevent detonation.

Yes, painting the intake and valve covers orange have been proven to give performance gains.

Judging from that intake manifold, it looks like they put on an IPD turbocharger kit that was available around 1980 (I think), before volvo started turbocharing in 1981. engine looks like a 78, 79 or 80.

Hell, a red valve cover should make ANYBODY'S car go faster!

I meant the turbo set up... But I heard that blue makes your car go even faster than orange....

Richard.

It depends if it's coming at you or going away from you.

Going away is red shift, coming at you is blue shift.

That's the Doppler effect, by the way.

Nearly every time I look at a Volvo engine it has a red color. Does this mean the universe of Volvos is expanding or maybe people are just trying to get out of my way?

It could be that you're moving away from the engine rather than the other way 'round.

Everything's relative, particularly the relatives.

They never call...they never write....

Relatives that don't call or write? You should get a patent and mass produce them. I'd buy a set.

You sure they're not living in your attic? and only come out when your asleep?

Oh yes, they do.

"Dad, send money."

That creates a new 'n different type of redshift.
