960 Check Engine/Idle Surge 900

Hi,
Yesterday, my 960's check engine light came on after I had accelerated to 5500 RPM. Then the idle was going from 500 to 2000 etc but not all the time. I shut it off to see if it would stop doing that, but then it would almost not restart. I finally got it started and drove it home. How/Where do I read the codes from?

I don't see where you listed what year 960 your asking about. Until 1995, you can read it yourself under the hood. After that, you need a scan tool.

Sorry,
It's a 93, 960 so I'll have to read them from under the hood, but how do I do that?
Thanks

Check the FAQ's, the procedure is listed there. The DTC (2 small black boxes) are located on the driver's side at the top, rear of the strut tower. Take the cover off A, insert the ground pin into slot (A)2, turn the key to on (do not start), the red light should be lit on the DTC, press it for at leat 1 sec but less than 3, read the codes. Repeat in case there are more than 1 code. Press and hold for at least 5 seconds, the red light should come back on, press and hold again for 5 seconds....this will clear the engine codes.

the codes come across as a series of light flashes......

* * ..............* * * *................. * would be code 241
