wobbly harmonic balancer 200

Just completed my third timing belt, they do get easier each time. When I started up my 1986, manual, 234000, I noticed that the harmonic balancer was wobbling. Did I miss something? Not tight enough? What method do you recommend using to tighten? Do I need a new harmonic balancer?
Thoughts appreciated, many thanks.

Don't drive the car until you fix this. The other posts are probably right about the cause. When a harmonic balancer starts to fail it squeaks or slips. The first is annoying, the second will cause your engine to lose power or bend a valve. Both are bad.

Check the harmonic balancer's keyway carefully. The keyway on my son's harmonic balancer became deformed/worn somehow and the balancer just wouldn't stay properly aligned. Had to buy a replacement balancer.

Good luck with your repair.

It sounds like it (the notch in the pulley) is not seated on the key in the crank. Better take care of that ASAP.

I think I'm correct in that you have to make sure that the crank sprocket key which is on the back side is on correctly or maybe it's the front. Either way it will cause the wobble you describe. This crank does not use a typical key that is seperate. Take a look and you'll see what I mean.
