Infamous clunk 200

Alright I now have the infamous clunks both front and rear. With the front I did the FCP Groton kit with ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushings, and sway bar linkage bushings 1 1/2 years ago. It just started to make noise a couple of weeks ago. What should I look at now?

With the rear, which are bushing most likely to be bad?

Thanks for your help.

Most suspect in the rear are the Trailing arm bushings. The ones that are in the axle itself.

The front, I would check the Bushings that are connected to the lower Firewall, they will clunk and squeek at slow speed too.

Mark,

I had a similar problem with the clunking noise in the rear and it was the (2) rear axle bushings only. I am replacing the rest of the bushings even though they look OK. I think you can pinpoint the noise by placing the car on jackstands (under the rear jackpoints so the axle is floating) and gentling prying the rods etc. to see which ones have play in them.

Does it clunk when you bounce it (on the bumper)?

No I don't hear it when bouncing on the bumper. I do hear a lot of squeak from the small bushing on the front of the control arm.

Typically if you hear it while jumping on the bumper it is something "loose".

You have replaced ALL the bushings right? Including the upper strut bearings? But still check everything with the struts. Cross frame bolts tight?

I have not yet checked the upper strut bearing. Which bolt are the cross frame bolts? Also this started about 6 weeks after I relined the brakes and packed the wheel bearings. The bearings were a bit loose, so I tightened them up. But the noise continues.

Cross member bolts: Two bolt heads in the engine bay on the real inside of the wheel wells low down...see Bentley or a lot of the IPD flyers show them...

Strut bearings do go...

Did you mess with the sways and how do those bushes look.
