Idle changes when warmed up (Long) 200

I've got an idle problem on my 1990 240 with 167k miles on it. I recently had the injectors cleaned professionally with the hope that it would smooth things out... When the engine is started from a cold start, the idle seems quite smooth, no engine shake at all, and only a slight "skip" once in awhile. Once the car warms up, the engine shake at idle returns.

Here's what I've done:
1) Replaced IAC with a known good one
2) New FPR installed
3) New fuel filter
4) repaired vacuum leaks in accordian hose from AMM
5) Fuel pumps are both running fine.
6) Throttle body cleaned, new gasket.
7) ECU temp sensor
8) Intake manifold gasket
9) Airbox thermostat replaced
10) O2 sensor (changed with the cat converter)

The car runs strong at cruising speeds, thankfully the clean injectors seem to give more power (although my main reason for the clean was the idle).

Has anyone had a similiar experience with the idle/smoothness changing from cold engine to warm?? What was your solution??

On a side note, I know that there are significant (to me) deposits in the combustion chamber/valves. I plan on running the "water clean" recommended in the FAQ to hopefully clean things up and then a can of BG44K for good measure. Two questions: which vacuum hose/port is best to use for the water clean and is it wise to do both the water clean & BG44K (in the tank) right after one another?

Thanks for your advice,
Zuda

Since I too am working out the shakes I was wondering if you would mind telling me how much it cost to clean the injectors? Did you do any of the work (removing/replacing) yourself? So far new plugs have made a big difference for me, though I had the throttle body cleaned at the same time, so prob that.

I experience the hard stop idle problem most, as sort of described by the other reply. Happens no matter the temp though.

Thanks for help and good luck.

I pulled and replaced the injectors myself, it's quite easy. I sent the injectors to "Cruzin Performance" http://www.cruzinperformance.com/ and had them cleaned, balanced, and new seals/caps put on. $11 per injector plus shipping costs... The guy who owns the company, Rich, is very personable and does quality work. The job cost me a total of $61 and a few days down time for my car, alot cheaper than new injectors! There are some other companies that do the same work, look in the FAQ for more info.

    interesting post,

    i have a 91 240 with 173kmiles..it has an EGR valve.

it starts everytime, first time. It will do 90 mph all day long, runs smooth as hell. Idles great in morning and whenever engine is cool. But, whenever it is hot out (live in florida) and I have to stop in traffic for a light or stop sign, it idles rough and wants to stall. I have cleaned the TB, replaced O2 sensor, checked everywhere for vacuum leaks, adjusted throttle plate, throttle switch and cable..still have idle problem. I never replaced the IAC valve or the AMM.

But I can tell you this..last week I paid $20 for an 11oz can of BG44k and dumped it in the tank just before driving 200 miles to visit a friend. I could tell the engine had a bit more power, but most of the improvement disappeared once the initial tank of gas was burned up. And I still have the poor idle problem.

I would be interested in knowing if you find the source of your rough idle.

Interesting. I also have a somewhat slight jiggle in the engine when warm. I haven't had the time to fix it. I was hoping it was dirty injectors and was planning to get them cleaned. Do your plugs have a light carbon coating on the non electrode parts.
