Squeaky Brakes 700 1987

Three weeks ago, I had my rear brakes and rotors replaced. Since then, my brakes squeal each time I stop. The mechanic told me he needed to put a clip from the Brake hardware kit that only Volvo supplied. So, I got the hardware, and had the mechanic put this on. YIKES!! The noise is still there. What's the deal? Should I look for a new mechanic? I'm in the Northern Virginia area, if anyone has suggestions.

I really appreciate your help. Thanks. Jennifer

I had the same problem with my wife's 245. New rear rotors, shoes, and hardware...still a high pitched sqeal fdrom the rear. WTF! I tore it all apart and had an assistant push on the pedal while I inspected the calipers, one side at a time, and low and behold one of the rear pistons was not moving as much as the other. It was partialy seized. It was too late for the parts guys to get me another caliper so I lubed it and sqished it in and pumped the piston out about 5 times and no more sqeak.

Long winded answer for, CHECK THE CALIPER PISTONS!

In the last year-and-a-half I've seen dozens of posts about noisy, squealing brakes. All the ones that I have read end the same way - Changing back to Volvo pads (with supplied shims in the rear) and plenty of brake grease. Problem solved.

Do a search, I'm sure that's what you will find.

i've got a stupid question but are you sure it's the rear brakes squeaking? as it a high pitched squeak or a low pitched whine/rumble? did he put the teflon pad and aluminum shim in?

It's high pitched. I'm sure the noise is coming from the rear brakes. Immediately upon getting the new rear brakes and rotors installed, the squeaking began. So, I can't imagine it's the front. Plus, the front brakes were checked out and they're fine. I had the front brakes replaced along with the rotors last year.

As for the other questions, I'm not sure what he put on. lol.

I kinda got used to the squeal. In fact, my family now knows when to lift dinner - when I get to the stop sign up the block.

The squeal can help wake you up and alert pedestrians or other drivers that you might be slowing down.
