I know wrong forum, but I will ask anyway. 200

You may remeber that I am having problems with my 83 245. I have more parts on over and have not givin up yet. But, I have found a 1988 740 turbo for sale and I would like your opinion.
I know how turbos work and I know they will eventually fail. But I have not owned one in along time.

How long can I expect a 4 cylinder volvo turbo to last? And if it does fail how much to replace? And will the car run with a failed turbo?

I posted on the 700 forum but there does not seem to be as much activity there as here.

Thanks again

Joe

My two 740Ts are the best cars I've ever owned.

I think 150K from a turbo is reasonable. Well cared for, who knows? Maybe lots more.

How much to replace a failed turbo? How much do you want to spend? You could buy a good used one for $100-$200 and spend two days swapping it out. You could pay $2000 for a shop to do this for you with a new/rebuilt unit.

At the risk of being hunted down by the 240 owners- buy the 740!
