Possible engine conversion on '80 Bertone 200

Hello fellow bricksters! Recently I've been faced with a very difficult choice to make about my newly aquired 1980 Bertone 262c; is it a better investment to fix the stock motor, or drop in a different one? Currently I don't exactly know whats wrong with the existing one (it was sitting for two years before I bought it.) Still, I was considering, if required, what would be the best alternative motor for it, if it does indeed have a bad engine in it. I would rather have it as stock as possible, thus rendering a drop-in unneeded, but still be able to drive it. Feel free to let me in on some programs or other methods I might be able to persue. -John W. Reece

The fun alternative is to drop in a V8.

In Canada we simply swap in a B23E engine which has nearly the power of the B27. The front springs need to be changed as well due to the lighter weight of the four cylinder, and the fact that it is back against the firewall where it should be. K-jet to K-jet, even the wiring harness is the same. I've done it a few times.
The B27 is not worth rebuilding, although I have done one of those too. Check the parts prices, especially the cam and rockers, and you'll see why.
