crawl under there with a handful of sockets. try each one until it fits. good idea huh?

I'll just add that if you had a V6, I believe that you can grind down a
3/8" drive ratched/extension/etc to fit the drain plug. Dunno about the
diesel.

25 mm. I am told that a 1" socket will work fine too.

Write the size on the engine 200 1989

Use a paint marker or something similar to write the drain plug size on a light colored part of the engine where it's clearly visible with the hood up.

Never more will you wonder or try sockets till they fit.
