Before I disassemble dash...is this normal or HVAC leak 200 1993

On HVAC sys.

If you set it to deliver air to the floor vents should any air flow out the main (front) vents?

Same question when set to defrost. Should any air flow out front vents?

It seems I always have a fair amount of flow out the front vents. Wondering if a bellow is belly-up.

I am chasing a "hissy/clicky" sound through the dash under load which I really don't believe is "original" equipments on a $28k luxury car. :)

Thanks for letting me know what vents and switch positions should do.

The 240 heat and a/c system doesn't allow for the center vents to shut off, other than closing the vents at the outlet.

That goes for 240s with the later style dashboard. I don't know about the earlier ones.

My experience with older 240s (80's vintage) is that the dash vents are always blowing, so one would have to close those vents to route all air flow to the selected button (floor or defrost).

I miss that on my 740. I liked that feature.

As far as the noise, I think that is unusual. I've taken the center console apart on a few 240s to repair vacuum connections at the HVAC selector. I think you could find the leak there, or possibly at a vacuum resevior (sp?) behind the HVAC assembly near the firewall, right on top of the tranny tunnel. I think the vacuum line for this is on the passenger side footwell.

Good luck with the leak-
-Dylan
