ZF Steering Rack Leaking 200 1986

I was inspecting the front end of my daughter's 1986 240. When I pulled off the passenger side steering boot, about a quarter cup of dirty fluid poured out of the boot. Can the ZF steering rack seals be replaced easily with the rack on the car? What else should I be looking for in deciding how to proceed? It's not a really fast leak because we hardly ever have to add fluid. The fluid that poured out could have been accumulating for years for all I know. I've replaced tie rods, but I've never repaired any part of the rack itself.

Don't panic. Top up the reservoir and then watch it week by week. If the fluid level drops quickly, then panic. But if you see no significant loss over the next few months, don't worry about it.
