The "Service" light is on in my '91 Volvo 240 Wagon. I've tried pushing in the button in the bottom right of the instrument cluster with the ignition in all positions and it stays lit. Is that button the reset switch? If so, how do I get it to work and what purpose does the service light function? I looked in Bentley and couldn't find it. Does it automatically come after a specific amount of miles (similar to my Inspection and Oil Service lights in my BMW)?

I believe that button in the lower right corner of the insterment cluster is the correct way to reset the service light on the early '90's 240's. If I remember correctly, the button pushes in much deeper than expected.

If it's like the '88, the light only comes on to remind you to change the oil every so many miles. Again, assuming it's like the older cars...there should be a switch on the backside of the speedo to reset the timer. Needless to say, do this with the ignition off, as you'll never know what circuits you'll accidentally close while groping around. Best of luck.

90 -93 240s reset service light by locating small stem like protrusion on lower right speedo panel in front. Notice center of the stem has a different colored material. This is a plunger like device to reset service light. With a small object like an unwound paperclip, insert into the middle of the stem and push in. You will note the outer stem is fixed as a sheath for the actual plunger stem. Sounds complicated, but very easy. Just depress until yuo feel a click or it stops. All this does is reset a small cam within your speedo, every so often (I think about 2000 or 3000 miles) the light illums indicating a service interval such as changing oil is due. For the wrench's it is a pain in the rear.

I believe it comes on every 5k miles, to indicate an oil change.

Mine turned on last week, and I've been too lazy to turn it off.

Indeed, it is the small switch on the cluster. I use a phillips head jeweler's screwdriver to poke in there.

IF you are really lazy, it eventually quits lighting up :)

Say after another 1000 miles??? I have let this lamp timeout before.
