And the idle shot up to 3000! Got it down to around 1000 with the help of Eric S. On the way to my parents house i notice at stops the idle was getting higher.Upon arriving and placeing it into park the idle shot back up to 2000, and then 3000 when i got it home(20 mile round trip). Shouted some more obscenities under the hood in the rainy dark, and got it to a healthy 950 or so. Will tell you guys and gal how it runs tommorow after work, but judging by the dramatic increse in power just around the block i think i figured it out.

But did you get the throttle position switch in the right adjustnment?

Use an ohmeter or test light to set the switch so that it trips just as the throttle plate closes. If the switch doesn't close, the IAC doesn't get into operation and the idle can be way high.
