Brake shims or Blue Goo?? 700 1989

Bricksters:
I am going to replace the Girling front calipers (nonABS) with Bendix calipers...easier to rebuild later. I have a set of good used Bendix calipers (125 K miles), a new set of semi-metallic pads but only a set of Girling Teflon shims. They fit but are not long enough...would they work? Or should I just use the BlueGoo stuff from PepGuys?
Thanks,
el Raidman

The shim merely has to (1) stay in place and (2) absorb pad-to-piston vibration. Blue goo works too.

The goo should work all right. I don't use shims on my cars, just goo. They are both 240s, but the info is probably ok. Actually, I use green goo, it's Permatex "Synthetic Brake Grease" or something like that. It works, no squeals. And I put it on the pins and clips and other hardware. Also supposed to be good for the sliding caliper pins on the 700/900.
