Wiper won't stop 700 1986

Wipers would not turn off until ignition turned off. Now will not turn off regardless. Pulled fuse for now. Will check the function of the column switch, but thinking might have something to do with whatever causes the wipers to return to down position after column switched is off. Does anyone know what keeps wipers moving until in down position?

Gary

In order to park at the bottom of the windshield, the wiper motor is supplied with 12 volts when the ignition key is on. There is a park switch which keeps the motor energized until the wipers return to the bottom of the windshield and the circuit is opened. For some reason, the park switch on your car is staying closed.

Thanks for the insight John,

Do you know if that park switch is part of the wiper motor assembly? I did have it all apart recently to clean and lube all the mechanics. Works like a dream now, but just won't stop.

I know there is a switch and cam in the motor assembly, but I assume that is to reverse direction of the motor polarity.

Thanks,

Gary

The motor doesn't reverse direction. The cam and switch are for parking. Since you have already had it apart this deep, you already know how, and you are going to have to do it again.

I have done this myself. I remember when the wipers on my PV 544 parked at the top of the wipe stroke.
