Never had a m47(?), actual 5 spd, before. Anyway in the 5th gear car sounds like it has exhaust leak. Get this load ticking sound, when you accelerate. Only happens in 5th, and the exhaust system is not leaking. Any only happens sometimes, not always.

Bought a cheap 88, 240 year ago, with noisy tranny. Topped up the fluid and tried to overfill, took the old snow tires off, made a big difference.

really interesting about the snow tires. I have rear snow tires on. I did not notice the noise the other day, when the roads were wet.
