FPR not working? 700 1988

I've had my 745t a couple of months and during that time have had a slight surging when accelerating which I've lived with to this point while taking care of other issues.

Soon after getting the car I pulled the spark plugs to check their condition and get a baseline for my records. Normal stuff I do, rich, lean, evidence of oil etc.

All the plugs were very clean but worn. Insulators were bone white. Too lean.
This morning I thought I'd disconnect and plug the vacumn line on the FPR just to see what the effect would be. Absolutely no difference in startup, cold or hot running, no power gain or loss and the surging was still present but amplified.

Guess I'll order a new FPR. This one looks like it could be original 185,000 miles). I'm basing that on appearance. It's shows the same amount of oxidation as the fuel rail and intake manifold.

    FPR not working? 700 1988

I had the same symptoms with my 88 745t - surging and removing the vacuum line had little effect. I also did some O2 sensor readings and my car ran very rich even with a vacuum leak.

After replacing the FPR, I have no surging, better fuel economy (1.5 mpg better) and a lot more power at WOT. No more detonation either.

It's worth a try. If it isn't the problem, replacing the FPR is just a good thing to do anyways as they seem to get lazy as they get old.

on my 740ti, when the fuel pressure regulator went(after 217K..woo hoo!..lol), it made a louder than usual hissing type noise and was dripping a slight bit of fuel into the vacuum line. Hope this helps!

Mine isn't leaking, just seems to be tired. I've ordered a new one and should have by Saturday.

        Thanks,
