Turn Rotors??? 200 1989

Hi all,

Front Rotors are looking kind of rough. Should I have them turnred to get more life out of them. I have had pulsating on firm stops. I also have heard that turning the rotors is not that effective i.e. pulsating continues.

What do you guys think?

I buy new rotors and will have them turned once. Get a quality rotor, not the cheapest thing you can find. Before you turn them a second time, check the limits as you might end up below the spec. Turning the rotor has always cured the pulsating brake problem for me, but it's only good for 12k to 15k before I have to do it again. You can get longer life by adjusting your driving habits, constant stop and go, or dragging the brakes will decrease the rotor life.

If they're nearly new, you might try it. If they're already well worn, don't bother. New ones aren't all that expensive, and turned rotors (being thinner and having less thermal mass) are much more susceptible to warping. $25 will get you a replacement which while not of a particularly well known brand is probably still as good or better than a turned rotor.

    Bram
