power windows suddenly blowing fuses 200

my power windows are not working. No problem since I bought the 84 240 diesel 10k ago.

Worked fine untill this morning. Woke up to a ice covered car, scraped the ice off the windows, and went to work. Went to roll down windows and nada.

found fuse blown, replaced fuse- blew agian. Went to parts store got proper size fuse-16amp, blew again.
Any suggestions as to were my trouble shooting should start?

Any common areas to seek out?

Thanks for any advice.

power windows suddenly blowing fuses 200

Hello,

I once had a mechanic bring me an 1800 dollar estimate to replace all the motors and window channels on a car that was doing the same thing. My simple solution was greasing/oiling the window channels on the offending window(s). As far as I know, the customer is still driving it. Any electrical motor will draw more power as it ages and wears, but having sticky window channels would definetly exascerbate the situation. You may also notice that your windows will wind up and down quicker.

Give that a try first before thinking of megabucks.

Happy Bricking!!!

does the fuse blow as soon as you put it in, or only when you operate the window switch? does it blow with all the switches?

power windows suddenly blowing fuses 200

clues:

fuse does not blow on window during up or down operation. as such.
fuse blows after a period of time. Time seems to be related to the size of fuse.
Rated ar 16amps, i first found a blown 8amp in the socket at the start of this smoldering emergency. put in a 16A and fuse did not blow for about five mins or so. Also the proper fuse makes all the windows go up and down much faster.

I get a few minutes of normal service with the new fuse. Up and down Up and down Up and down...... Fixed. Then when I try a few moments later the fuse is blown.....

It suppose it could possibly be blowing on roll up. I guess I need to see when it blows in relationship to operation. I will watch and and see.

Also a few minor, but now as I assemble all the clues, facts-
When I engage the left turn signal. the broken light idiot light goes on for a nano second. But only if i have not engaged the turn signal fow a while. If I try to replicate the event in rapid sequence it only seems to happen on the first engagement of the sequence.
BUT it never happens if the headlights are on.

I keep telling myself that it ain't a car,,,, it's a hobby.

Are these related?

My hunch is a moisture problem. We just had the last snow of the year and and the snow sat on flat surfaces of the car and melted slowly giving the car a good soak.

When i first got the car i had a passenger floor board of water after a soaking rain... happened only once, never since.....

HINTS? CLUES? THANKS AGAIN
