Stymied by an A/C hose 200 1984

I got the condensor hose off my compressor easily enough. The hose that heads over the engine and into the cabin (the one farther from the block) is a beast, access-wise. Anybody have sage advice?

I've taken out the AMM and a few bolts on the back of the steering pump, but I still can't get a wrench or vise grip on it with clearance to loosen it.

I'm going in to replace an o-ring. Is there even one in there? If not, it would solve a lot of problems.

Thanks yet again,

Steve M

I just did 134a mod to my 88 245. I dont know if the ac compressor is the same configuration but I gained access from the bottom. I think it used a 1 inch or 15/16 wrench.
Hope this helps

Joe Scott

I'll jack her up tomorrow. Can't hurt.

I was seriously considering removing the power steering pump to get at it. I couldn't get a reasonable grip with a 22mm or a 24 mm so maybe SAE is the way to go. That, or just suffering in the heat.

Thanks.

Steve

Steve -

Lotta greasy work, that! BTDT. Yes, there is an 0-ring in there. BTW the hose over the block into the cabin is low pressure, coming from the evaporator. The radiator-looking thing in front of the "real" radiator is the condensor, and it's in the high pressure side.

You may have to buy a refrigeration wrench for that connection, and it may be an English size rather than metric. As I recall, I found some of the a/c sizes in my 1983 and 1984 240 to be English.

In case you haven't seen one, a refrigeration wrench looks like a box-end wrench but the box is not a closed circle. It has a cut out so it can go on over the tubing, and it is expecilly forged and hardened steel. Not inexpensive, but sometimes indespensable. I have one for brake caliper work, too.

Good Luck,
Bob
