my wipers no longer have the 7 second pause ,do not return to park ,in the pause mode they just keep going,but still have the regular other two speeds ...but the just stop on the window where ever i turn them off. help ,kris

My 1991 245 had almost the same problem, except that my wipers did not stop even in stop position, only when you turned the engine off. It started about one month ago. I even asked for advice on the board and dave was kind enough to give me the same advice. And just when I was about to start fixing it last week ( we've had a rainy and very cold month here so I was really not in the mood to fix things as long as they did their job) it returned to normal by itsself. I begin to wonder if this car has a self fixing system or something... :-)) Still I'll probably clean those contacts when it gets hotter...

My 81 242 had the same problems. Doing just what Dave suggested to you fixed mine: cleaning the contacts under the flat motor cover that is on the passenger side of the motor, and replacing the relay ($5.00 junkyard). Now they work perfectly. Good luck.

On my '84 this exact same problem was caused by a bad ground under the cover of the gearbox on the wiper motor. Carefuly remove the cover, clean the copper tab you see there which is supposed to make contact with the cover, clean the cover where it makes contact, put it back together. If this doesn't help you may need a new relay. The relay is found under a black sheet metal guard down where the drivers left foot rests, you will have to pull back the carpet and pull on a bundle of wires that go down behind the cover.

Hi, I also had the same problem...I had to have relay replaced. Did the trick.. It wouldn't pass state inspection otherwise. '79 245dl 210,800
