What is this cable? 200

I was taking off the cat. to make more room to take offthe Turbo and I noticed a cable that was broken off.It seems to run from a hole in the front of the bell housing and makes a 90 degree turn that runs next to the kickdown cable where it goes into the trans.but the unknown cable ends about 4 in. past that. Can't find the other end of it. It was getting dark so I stopped looking.Have any idea's? Chrlie

I guess you are referring to the REAR of the bell housing as the front is mated to the engine.

This could well be a diagnostic engine speed sensor that leads to a connector on top of the engine after end. This type of connector is used by Volvo special tools to adjust timing etc.

Assuming the engine runs fine, it obviously is not be vital, like to jetronic speed sensor, car will not run without that one.

I have talked to a few dealer service departments including Brentwood Volvo about whether they still access this port. Answer was no. Apparently the sensor gives redundant info that can be accessed elsewhere. I have removed mine and plugged it off.
