K-jet starting problem 700 1987

1987 740GLE, K-jet B230

Vehicle does not start from cold. No fuel comes out of the injectors, fuel pressure is present up to the distributor. If I manually lower the system pressure by slightly undoing the input hose to the control pressure regulator the car will start, and upon redoing the hose (with engine running) the engine runs well.
No difference in running or starting can be observed by unplugging or replugging the electrical connector to the CPR.

To me it would suggest a broken CPR, but before I try to find one, am I on the correct path here or am I missing something?

Bram

Bram,
It does sound as if the warm up regulator is at fault but I would personally want to check the control and system pressures before replacing an expensive regulator, especially as failure is rare.
You won`t see any immediate effect from disconnecting the wiring as it only operates a heater element which causes the the regulator to slowly change the control pressure as the engine warms up. For a very good explanation of the system`s function Click Here,
One possibility is a blocked return pipe, causing excessive pressure to build in the system.
Colin.
