SRS fault code #5 700 1990

1990 765. SRS system without pyrotechnic retractors.

SRS light has come on a few times during the past two years. I'm almost positive it is one of the connectors because once it occured as I put the pedal to the metal at the moment passing gear kicked in, and another time over a large bump. It always has code "5" and clearing the code turns off the light. The 2 digit code chart applies to later models - what fault does this code indicate?

It is more than likely a connector, but it's hard to say either which one or where.

Often this is seen as a result of voltage irregularities during jumpstarting or dead battery, or changing the battery. I don't know why it creates a "5" but it does. I think this is the airbag module code, and perhaps cleaning the connector to the column unit (the main connector in the center console unit) might help significantly. It could even have something to do with battery connections or grounds.

im not sure, but i think 5 is the airbag, which usually means the connection isnt good, i would chech the contact reel first. but be careful there is a long screw to lock it in place while you remove the steering wheel, if you dont do this the spring will unravel.

I got an '87 that came with SRS fault code "5". I think someone from BB told me it may be a "loss of power" fault, or may have been triggered from a jump start. Whatever the fault was it never happened again after I cleared it. Maybe check the power and ground wires to to your SRS components?
