Trans. fluid in Radiator 700 1992

Hi everyone.
Marcel here, first time user...

I have a 1992 740 Turbo Wagon.
A month ago my transmission went out while going up a steep hill.
Trans. fluid was spewing out....
Had it towed in to my friends Volvo shop. Turns out the Trans. Pump was shot.
(Trans fluid was spewing up the Trans deep stick when creating high pressure like
going up steep hill).
My friend put in a used Transmission. Then two weeks later I detected oil in the Radiator
overflow and the Trans. fluid was all milky white looking.
Took it back and had the Radiator changed(Trans. cooler rapture inside radiator) and Trans flushed.
Now a week later I am starting to see oil in the Radiator over flow and the Trans fluid is
starting to change color again from the Red...

UNRELATED... After changing the Radiator, the three front angine seals were leaking so we
had those changed.
ALL THESE AT ONLY 62000 MILES...

I would appreciate any sudgestions on this matter.

Thank you so much.

Marcel

Been there done that. I have a 88 240 and had to replace the transmission altogether. If the tranny wasnt flushed competely then you might be seeing oil that was hiding in the torque converter.

Yes it turns out there was residual trany fluid left inside, so they just drained it and filled it
up again. It might need an other change before we are done...

Had a similiar problem on a 91 740 300 miles from home on vacation. Milky transmission fluid.. Had the rad replaced and the tranny flushed, twice and got it home. About a month later, the tranny started slipping in reverse and then in drive shortly thereafter. The bad news is antifreeze/water in the transmission turns to steam and this, plus the ethylene glycol base of antifreeze destroys the internal clutches in the tranny. I'd continue flushing it but you may be putting gold teeth in a dead horse. Good luck. We ended up with a rebuilt unit as it totally quit.

Either you got a bad radiator or neither unit was properly flushed.

Pressure test the radiator. How is your head gasket?

It happens. How often did you flush and renew coolant in the cooling system?

You may have to flush the cooling system out a few times(with heater valve set to highest setting) to get all of the remaining trans fluid out, there is probably some still hiding in the heater core.

Yes, I did flush the radiator TWICE. I used some radiator cleaning system where I drove around a full day with it, then flushed it out till clear water was coming out.
REMEMBER. I am geting MILKY RED on the trany deep stick already (again).

Thanks

Marcel

The only way this can happen is for the cooler inside the radiator to leak. You have a bad radiator. It should be covered on warranty. Replace it ASAP so the tranny does not say goodbye.

Thank you Steve.
That was my imression. Bad radiator. It was not an original and the one that was
replaced wasn't either.
But how do you figure all this at only 62000 miles...

Marcel
