I am arguing with my father on this one as well. The junk yard dont know the year and i never look to find out, i will. It is a dyer & dyer original, wich a dealer has to do some kind of something, to make or be able to call it original . I will take a photo of this car and faring . And repost with the pic it is metal, looks to good to be home built , cant find any aftermarket, it also has a few rock dents in it . THANKS as this is a mystery THANKS for help.

I don't have the ipd catalog handy, but all the Turbo models had plastic air dams. The only model to get a metal dam standard was the 78-79 242GT (other models could get it as an option.) This style of dam did not have any kind of air scoop. So maybe what you've found is aftermarket or custom?

Hello,

As Bob says, 240's never had metal factory front spoilers, and specifically that includes GT's as well. The 78 & 79 models had the classic vertical air dam, but it was certainly plastic (I cracked the one on my 78 GT on a snowbank).

If it's meatal, it's aftermarket or homebuilt. Both the OEM scoop and front faring are plastic. BTW, there's a little warning inside the OEM fairing that says not to use it with steel wheels, lest you overheat the brakes on some mountain pass.

Warning-Air dam (front spoiler)/non factory wheel rims. Air dams can negatively influence the normal flow of air to the front wheel brakes. Therefore , special light alloy wheel rims approved by volvo must be used in conjunction with the air dam .> Steel wheel rims 1980 or later year models together with vented brake disks CAN BE USED in place of light alloy wheels <. Therfore, steel wheels did come on turbos as factory as well as the vented brakes, the turbo im looking at in the junk yard has steel wheels and the vented disks. I here a lot of people saying turbos dont have steel wheels, well they do, and they also have alloy wheels as well . This info came out of my 1985 owner manual for 240 DL , GL , TURBO . Is what there talking about is so people dont put steel wheels on the car with tiny holes or hud caps that would hinder the flow of air threw the rim to the brake disk and out the other side.
