I'm replacing the carpet underpad of my '80 245 because the rubber layer is falling apart. I have foam carpet underpad available but was thinking that other stuff may be better. Any suggestions?

There is two kinds of home carpet pad, that can be used.One is called HAIR PAD,and the other is called scrap pad. The HAIR PAD, is like a lot of hair compresed. It is gray in color with hints of red/yellow/blue fibers. The SCRAP PAD is well,carpet scraps that are shereded and compacted.The HAIR PAD is the best.Well, better than the SCRAP PAD. Both can be seen, and bought, at a carpet store. If you'er lucky, the carpet store might have a good size and say,keep it. Good luck. You will have to trim this and it eat's blades like crazy so have many on hand.

Hair pad,looks similer to the padding in the trunk,that protects the 1/4panel from the spare tire,but only with "out" that rubber covering.

Well,that's what is in my 85's trunk. Scrap pad is kinda lumpy,but will work.
