240 tangled with a semi--question about interchangeable parts 200 1989

Danm the luck. My beautiful '89 240 is no more, but on the bright side, I still am. A high speed sideswipe by a semi brought it to an untimely end. I bought the car back from the insurance company for only $160 because the driveline, tires, wheels, stereo, and many other parts are just fine. My plan is to find another '89 240 and use the wreck as a parts supply. My question is this: Since I'm finding the pickings very slim for 89s in the Minneapolis area so far, would it make sense to consider '88 or '90 models (which seem to be available in better numbers), or will I lose a lot of the parts interchangeability? I'm thinking especially of the computer modules and other electronic components. I haven't ruled out looking elsewhere in the country, but I'm a little reluctant to travel long distances for an older car. Thanks to responents for sharing your expertise!
Mike F.

Mike, I would reply privately, but I don't see the option near your name on the message.

There is now a 1989 240 listed in the Minneapolis paper, <$3000 section, for $900. "Runs good." Must be rusty? Or sold? ;-)

Good luck

For more interchangeability, 1990 (and up). That is mainly with electronics, but if you step to 1991, there are other good features as well. Or 92 or 93.

Either way. With an '88 you will never need an ECU, but the AMM will be an 007 and it uses a year specific fpr. Then, in '89 with LH2.4 you can find 90-93s with the 016 AMM and 951 ECU (mainly). '89 is the last year for the simple dash, and the only year to use the funky steering wheel. You won't go wrong with an '88 OR a '90-93.
