I just bought a '95 960 with 115k for a reliable second car. Took the car to a local specialty repair shop (north metro Atlanta) and they informed me the vacum diaphrams for the A/C need to be replaced as well as the left rack boot for the power steering. Plus the motor mounts will need to be replaced. Total for these three items is $2k in repairs.
However, the car runs strong and seems to be in good shape.
Unfortunately, I'm not too mechanincal, so I'm forced to have someone else do the work.
I know all cars are different, but can someone tell me if these repairs seem legit at this stage with the car and any recomendations for good (and reasonable) repair work in the Atlanta area.
Thanks-

I'd recomend South Gwinnett Auto Service in Snellville. This shop was referred to me through a friend and have been satisfied with their service and fairness.

I also have a 95' 964 and they are very knowledgeable.

You can tell them Dave recomended them. Ask for Barry or Mike. 770-736-8088.

By the way I have tried Swedish Engineering in Marietta when I first purchased my 960 and was left with a feeling that they where just trying to get into my pockets. I don't mean to offend anyone but I must give my honest opinion.

Good Luck.

Yes, too expensive. The most expensive service is the replacement of the vacuum diaphrams because they require taking off a good deal of stuff under the dash.

There is a short cut repair that results in a fix with some limitation to their function described in the FAQs: http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/HeatingVacuumServoReplacement.htm#ReplacingVacuumServosinACCEquipped700900

Even if you don't/can't do the work you should print this out and show it to the mechanic for his opinion. I don't think that this repair is a critical repair; the symptoms usually involve loss of air vents when you accelerate.

Hope this helps.

Two thousand bucks for that?????
Did he have a gun to your head while making that request?

Read the 700 900 faq's to get a good idea of what is involved so you will know what they are speaking of when you take it around to a few more shops for a second opinion and some more reasonable estimates.

Quite frankly , I don't see anything there that I would consider tricky for ayone who can figure out which end of the wrench to hold, and can follow basic instructions in a manual.
