Cat converter - Source & reliability 900 1995

940 Non-turbo

I ran over a rock while overtaking, and dented the cat. When I rev the engine I could hear some metal noises from the cat. I suppose whatever there is inside has came out loose.

Where can I purchase reliable cat from sources that are honest and reliable? I'm not in the US and have to rely on honesty of the dealer. I've been to several sites like "All Catalytic Converter.com", "Discount Converter.com" and "FCPGroton" and they showed pictures that do not have a sensor hole on their cat. I could email them to ask about this but I like to know which of these names are reliable people.

Also is there any difference with buying OEM, aftermart and buying Volvo original cat? Volvo's cats are pricey.

Thanks as always.

Laozong

Nick at www.fcpgroton.com will know what you need, at least if your car is like US market cars. After many orders from Puerto Rico during the last two or three years, I can vouch he is honest and totally reliable. As my situation is similar to yours, I strongly recommend FCPGroton. BTW, I ordered a direct fit catalytic convertor from them. It looked of such good quality and fit so perfectly, the mechanic was convinced it was Volvo OEM. It also with a written five year warranty and it cost less than anything else I found at discount places.

I replaced the catalytic converter on wifes '91 945 SE last weekend.
Used Bosal converter from FCP Groton, there was a "threaded plug"
and on Turbo models it stays in, remember to TORQUE it in. I suppose it
is for o2 sensor on N/A models.

$115.00 and fit perfect.

Thank you for the info.
Discount cat has the lowest price (difference about $20) and according to them the cat has a threaded hole for O2 sensor. Anyway I'll get more info from them first. Maybe I'll go with FCPG since I've got a number of recommendations.

Thanks

FCPG, Discount Converter(Discount), and All Cat COnverter.com (All Cat) replied.
Discount offered the cheapest at 87 (plus another 60 for shipping) for part #4021.
Problem is "All Cat" reply suggests that part #4021 does not have a O2 sensor hole, which Discount claimed has one.

Can someone confirm on this?

Thanks.

Yep, it's been a subject here on and off. I guess the issue is making sure it matches up with the existing fittings and or pipe diameters. I think aftermarket cats should be fine but so many are "universal" fits. I keep looking here for a name and part no. None yet.

IPD's has one for a 740-1985 to 92, 940-1992 to 95 non turbo for $190+S&H, 2002 catalog. That is about $90 too high but it would probably fit well.

I know FPCG and IPD are very reliable and they want to sell parts that work. Discount Converter.com should have a return policy but check the small print.

PLEASE let us know what you find and how much, only if it fits. :o) Good Luck.

You should email and ask FCP. I recently purchased a new cat from them, and the salesperson specifically asked where my sensor hole was located, and based on that shipped the appropriate one.
