Amazon horn improvements 120-130 1967

How many horn tones should a stock 1967 Amazon have?

Following my earlier front-ender by the (blind) guy on the motorway I took my car in to have the horn improved. It's come back much louder, but only with one tone, and I could have sworn it should be bi-tonal.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Thank you to everyone for these replies. I'm definitely going to upgrade the horn.

I think I won't go with the air horn because I have a habit sometimes of glancing the wheel with my elbow, shoulder, bags of shopping and setting off the horn, frightening children and small animals...

Eric;

My regrets on your accident...luckily you and the car survived.

Stock there should be two, a low and a high tone coming from seperate horns typically located to the right and left side, in front of radiator. If they worked OK before damage, then they should obviously work fine after repair/replacement, however orignal equipment horns (no relay) develop voltage drop problems with time so that an upgrade to include a control relay may be a good idea. For this see: http://www.intelab.com/swem/hornupgrade.htm

Cheers

Starting partway thru the '67 production year, they put both horns on the left hand side (a la the '68 and later models), with a different kind of bracket. Different horn, too, unlike the 'plain old round ones' used on the earlier years. Air horns are what ya need! LOUD ones!

1967 was a magical year for Volvo. Lots of changes on the fly.

I'm very fond of the air horns on my 145. Loud as heck. Plus, when you honk at someone and want to take it back, it's as good as done because nobody thinks the little wagon would make such a racket.

There is an ebay auction at the moment for upgrade horns at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2415928689&category=33704. The ipd part number is also given in the auction. Read Ron's thing for appropriate upgrade to wires.

I'll second the LOUD airhorn comment. I don't have a car without them. Don't use them often, but when you need a horn, you NEED a horn!
