Four-cylinder redlines? 200

Recently installed an eBay tach in my '84 245/B23(NA) Tach has a 6500 rpm redline. While at the salvage yard yesterday, retrieved a tach from an 84 Turbo - has a 6000 redline. Are there specific different specs for the various incarnations of the Volvo 4-cylinder (B21/B21FT/B23/B23FT(84 760T)/B230/B230T)?

Thx
Tom

The B21F cars equipped with K-Jet had a suggested redline of 6500RPM, but there was nothing in place to keep you from going right past that. I'm not sure if the B21F MPG cars ('82 B21s with LH-Jet) had a 6K or 6500 redline. But for certain, all the 2.3L motors had a 6K RPM redline, and a very hard limiter that cuts the engine if you try to exceed that. It varies, in my experience, depending on the exact version of LH you have, between 5800 and 6200 RPM.

Because these cars have been around so long, tachs and clocks have been swapped around, and you're never quite sure what you'll find in any particular 240.

I have a B21F engine with K Jetronic and a M46 transmission. The redline on the tach is 6500. Taken the engine there plenty of times with any problems.

I know all of my B230 cars have a 6000rpm redline- that's when the ignition computer cuts 'em off. It's a weird feeling- you can actually rev them in neutral and the engine "bounces" off the rev limiter. I suppose it helps make them incapable of hurting themselves. Sure feels weird when it happens.

Man, I'd be scared to do that with my car. It would probably break or something.

I think it's set up to be pretty conservative. But it's not something I do every day to these 200K engines... lets just say it happened once or twice.

It's not that usefull to rev that high on a NA red block anyway. The power curve falls off. Better to shift.
