what gear oil do you use on the IRS setup? 700

can i run the standard weight, or do i need a limited slip additive? i don't think it's limited slip, but does anyone know?

Normal gear oil, or synthetic, whatever. Normal vis. 700

Use normal if you don't have LSD. What year car? Does it have limited slip? You should be able to use LSD additive with no worries in a normal axle. Or LSD-ready fluid too.

If in doubt, use the LSD fluid. Unless it is a locking differential (different than limited slip) use the LSD oil. Otherwise, normal gear oil vis is fine, and no additive (or "LSD compatible") fluid necessary. If you have limited slip, use the LSD fluid.

it's an 88 760gle, i don't think it's limited slip, but don't they usually have a tag on it or something?

I dunno. Like I said, a normal differential won't be harmed by using LSD compatible fluid, so if you think it might be, it won't hurt. The LSD oil generally makes the takeup of the unit a little smoother. Without it, you might get some big chattering problems, which could ultimately lead to lower lifespan. I have killed one before, I believe for those reasons.
