rewiring 66 1800 1800

Greetings,
Summer projects abound. My 66 1800s has become a wiring nightmare. Prior to my getting the car it had been set on fire and most of the interior wiring harness was beyond recognition. I have five books on the 1800 and all have different wiring diagrams! When looking around the car I keep finding 30+ years of patches on the wiring. Has anyone ever rewired an 1800S from scratch...any suggestions, warnings? Or is it recommended to try and reconnect a replacement harness and guess which wiring diagram fits?
Thanks,
Erik

I have the original "green" manuals for a 1968, which I would think would not be very different. I am certain that there are wiring diagrams that could perhaps be photocopied if you are interested. Also, I noticed the other day that there was a used wiring harness on ebay???

I haven't done one that had a destroyed harness, but I have done a '67 where nothing was connected or labeled. It's really not that bad.

The wiring diagram in the Haynes 120/130/1800 manual is the Volvo diagram. It matched the harnesses in the car perfectly. The only variance is whether or not you wire it for the foot-operated dimmer switch or the turn signal stalk.
