Eggcrate grille wont fit my 95 945T 900

Hi Everyone,

I've got a 95 945T that does not have any of the normal turbo options that came with earlier years: no "turbo" badge on the tailgate, no factory boost gauge, no eggcrate grille, 15" wheels. I finally found a used grille meant for the 740/940 models with the single headlights (no foglights) and ordered it. It arrived this weekend and when I tried to install it on the 940, the grille was about 1/2" too wide and did not line up with the bottom holes. At first, I thought I had mistakenly gotten the grille intended for the models with foglights, but when I tried it on my 1990 740 (no foglights) it fit perfectly. After some measuring, it looks like the 940 headlights are about 1/4 - 1/2" wider than the 740 lights. Does anyone why the 940 is different? Do I actually need the grille for the model with foglights? It looks like I could make a few modifications to make it fit, but I'd like to get the correct part if it's available.

Also, if I get the IPD boost gauge with the pod mount, will I have difficulty on the installation becuase there is no existing plumbing to work with (no factory gauge).

Thanks in advance.

John Taylor

The 1990 740T was a one-year-only front end. That grille will fit only 1990 models; no others.

You can order a 91-95 egg crate (w/o foglights), and it should fit your 95.

I have a 90 740, and my understanding is that the front end pieces (including the hood) are unique to that model and year ONLY. So if you have a grill that fits a 90 740, that's ALL it will fit. The 89 740 had the dual square headlamps, and the 91 740 shared parts with the first 940's.

At least that's what I've been told......

It makes finding used front end parts for a 90 740 virtually impossible. (Like finding another hood after a certain 275 lb niece flops her big ol self down on it and dents it all in!!)

probably because in europe the headlights in 740's and 940's are totally different from each other!

740's have a single main light and fogs in the skirt, 940's have a triple main light with fogs and 'spots' built into the light unit....

my 940 (91) has theses lights and a egg-crate grill (although i am thinking of ditching the grill as im not sure I (a) like it and (b) like the possibility of a small stone going straight thru one of the holes back to the intercooler/rad/aircon assembly back theres..thinking of a glack mesh grill instead...

as for the guage i would assume you will have to run a pipe fro mthe manafold thru the firewall and thru the dash..not a huge job but fidly and easier with an assistant when it comes to the firewall...

it's unclear from your post whether you have foglights next to your headlights. If you do have the fogs, then that grill won't fit - you need the specific grill for the cars with fogs.

Not that you asked, but since that car will last you forever, you can swap those lights for e-code headlamps, get an eggcrate grill to fit and see while you are driving at night!
