correct way to use overdrive switch 200 1982

I picked up an 82 for my dtr. The car is a standard with overdrive. The guy selling the car indicates you should clutch when engaging. What is correct procedure?

Use the clutch to engage and disengage the overdrive, just as you would to shift into any other gear. The factory clutch in these cars lasts forever and then some, and replacements are inexpensive, but the overdrive has a more finite lifespan and certain parts (e.g. cone clutch) are no longer available or are very expensive.

Volvo manual says you should only take pressure off of the accelerator when engaging/disengaging O/D. However, every piece of advice from people who have had to work on their O/D units indicates to clutch as it takes stress off of the driveline. I clutch when I shift.
