Testing heater valve 700 1989

Hi. I have read about heater valves in the past and if I am right its the control tap on the fire wall with hoses and a wire to it this should control the flow of hot coolant how do I test this valve to see if its sealing right or has a leak Thanks

Many people replace it preventively to avoid costly overheating problems when it breaks. It may be prudent to replace it irregardless (see cooling faq).

You have identified it correctly except it has a vacume line to it not a wire. You can see it open and close by watching the metal lever on it move when you operate the heater control.

What are your symptoms? If you think it is passing water when it should be fully closed you can remove it and install a union with clamps to join the hoses together.
