Car won't reverese 200 1983

I'm having a problem reversing in my '83 242DL. The problem is, everytime I put it in reverse, the #12 fuse blows and the engine dies and won't start back up until the fuse is replaced. It did this maybe 2 times before after letting me reverse for a bit, then was fine for a while, and recently started just blowing the fuse everytime I put it in reverse. I tried taking out the reverse light bulbs thinking maybe they were shorting something, but that didn't work.

The thing really confusing me is that the #12 fuse being blown keeps the engine from starting when the manual and fuse box door list its functions as: Backup lights, Relay, window lifts, Heated driver's seat, Air conditioning. Is it possible some wires are crossed somewhere? Where would I look for that? The #13 fuse does fuel injection, so maybe it's crossed with that circuit somehow. Thanks.

Fuse #12 feeds the fuel injection system and the back-up lights. Check the wiring to the back-up lights. The fuel injection system feed was moved to fuse #13 in the 1984 model.

Good Luck,

Bob

Looking at the fatory manuals it appears that fuse #12 is connected to fuse #11 & 13 but only because they are in the same connector coming in from the ignition switch. So it is puzzling as to why the engine shuts off because of the #12 fuse. Anyways, I have the whole lot of factory manuals so if you need some pictures to help your trouble shooting e-mail me and I will get them out to you as soon as I can. Good Luck!
