Polishing the radiaor tank 1800

I'll stick this in the 1800 area as I know at least one 1800 owner here has done this.

So what's involved to not only take it down to metal and polish it, but in keeping it nice as well? How often do you have to buff it up? Any sort of coating on there? I recently got on a kick of polishing things in the engine compartment like relays or whatever. Things that were shiny when they were new, that is. How I considered my life previous to Mother's Polish complete I'll never know. But I am fond of how a nice brassy radiator tank looks.

Thanks. I think...

By the way, did you ever install the Emerald system in a 122? I've been thinking about that recently.

The buffer wheel option is one way to go- followed by some 1100 grit sandpaper and other progressively fine finishing products. An acid bath might clean up the core, too...
Followed by high-temp clearcoat, as suggested elsewhere...
Don't forget to anodize and chrome all of the other bits under the hood...

Silly! Radiator tank not Polish! Tank Swedish!

Svet thinking 1800 owners not so unusual as like to think. 1800 modle is new skin for super-excellent legendary Amazon! Mechanical sameness just not as pretty as 122.

For to remove paint Blut & Svet like using mild sanding papers. Corners tricky but go well with dremeling wire brushie. When paint kaput, shiny brass with steel wool, then shiny paste goopy. Last step is magnificent Amerikan produkt "Eagle One." For preserving, can use hi-temping clearcoat spray if want. Svet prefer leave naked. Naked always better.

Sounds like you've got too much time on your hands :-)

I too like Mother's, but... it ain't good enough for the serious stuff that requires a buffer wheel... that being... old tarnished cam covers on an XK120. I also like the polished radiator...until someone (me in this case) does some sloppy soldering work...
