My VOLVO 240 DL will not start 200 1989

Please help me. Plenty of juice in my battery. I turn the ignition switch to ON and dashboard lights come on, but the engine does not turn at all. When I turn on my headlights and turn the ignition to ON, the headlights dim. Does this rule out the starter? COuld a bad fuse be the culprit?

I need some help. I'm not quite sure where to start. Thanks... C54618.

I agree- check both battery cables for corrosion. IF it will start with a jump start, than make sure your battery is being charged properly- when running, system voltage should be 13.5-14.8V.

i had this EXACT same problem! 200 1989

for me, it was a loose connection at the positive battery cable, try putting some vice grips on there and cranking it, if that works then buy a new connector and throw it on there.

Kind of a rookie, but a couple of things to check first to rule out:
1. check the battery cable going to the starter to verify the connections are ok, ie not corroded.
2. check the 25amp fuse located on the inner left fender, just behind the battery

Headlights dimming when you hit the starter says that the starter is drawing a lot- this could be a weak battery, bad connections, or a failing starter.

When starters go bad they draw an excessive amount- say over 35 amps- a really bad starter will pull over 65 amps.

Basic diagnostic: borrow a known-good battery, clean and tighen all connections, crank it over. If it doesn't crank- and the positive lead to the starter starts getting hot, you have a starter problem.
