Blown Fuses 200 1992

1992 240 continues to blow fuses. Last summer it was the power windows every other day, in the fall it was the over-drive a few times, now it is the ABS/reverse lockout. This one is disturbing because it causes the brake lights not to work. I was surprised the ABS light or Brake light failure lights didn't come on. Any ideas regarding the cause would be appreciated.
Thanks

This is a stretch - but possibly your voltage regulator is regulating at too low a voltage. If a window motor draws 8 amps (just a guess) at 13.5 volts, it will draw around 9.4 amps at 11.5 volts. Coupled with old fuses (they can fatigue from road vibration and thermal cycles), that might be enough to puch them over the edge. I would check your system voltage at the battery with the engine running - should read around 13.5 give or take a half a volt. Then treat your brick to a st of new fuses, clean off the spring contacts, and pinch them together a bit to increase contact pressure on the fuses. Might not solve your problem, but it adds a measure of goodness.

Something must be grounding somewhere... Look for loose wires to the components that blow the fuses...

That said, it could be something completly different, (I don't know a thing about 240's made past 1980), but it would be a place to start. I do know that your car should not consistantly blow fuses.

I'm afraid I can't offer any more info...
