Auxiliary Air Valve....Repair or Replace? 200

My daughter's 76 244 has a non opening auxiliary air valve.

It will open easily enough with the help of a small screwdriver. With the adjustment of the small nut it stays open to a small crescent moon shape. However once reinstalled and the car started, it closes and remains closed. Hence cold starts require plenty of accelerator assistance.

I'm hoping my daughter can keep the car for the remaining four years of her uni course. Is it a case of outlaying the $77Aus to buy new.

Thankyou in advance for all advice.

John H from Downunder

What's your ambient temperature there? It has to be really cold for the Aux Air Valve to open much more than a "small crescent", as I recall. (been about 7 years since I saw one up close.) Did you try it in the fridge? How about the Warm Up/Control Pressure Reg? Cold Start Injector?

Sorry I don't have areal solid suggestion,

Bruce

Hibbo,

Where are you in Oz? I have one I removed from my 76 244DL? I tested it in the refrigerator, it opened and when installed, after car was at operating temperature, it was closed or nearly so. It might be worth a try. If you are not in SA, then I can mail it, if you pay my postage . . . Would $50, all up, be a fair price? +61 04 0104 6995 As an option, soak yours overnight in diesel or spray a can of Brake Cleaner or Carb Cleaner or something up in there and try it, as I tested mine.

Good luck.
