Volvo AC: The Low-Side Charge Port 200 1984

After losing all my freon and oil when my high-side rubber host burst last September, I have gone and replaced components on my 1984 (York compressor) for the purposes of going to R134a. Problem: I think mine is one of those which has no tap on the low-pressure side.

At least, not one which I have found.

Some folks have "Teed" a port into the system. Where do I get one of these? And if it is a custom part, what are the necessary threads?

Or, am I not looking hard enough on my compressor for the Schrader valve? I have heard it is on the front, or on the side. CONFUSED!!!

Volvo AC: The Low-Side Charge Port 200 1984

On my 83 (with York) it is on the top/front/right of the compressor and the high side valve is top/front/left. The valves are covered by caps similar to valve stem caps on the tires. Your conversion kit should have a valve (and O-ring) which will screw down over the R12 valve (after removing the valve core) to provide the correct hookup for the R134 charging fittings.

The high side was on the lower hose on a metal "T" type fitting and this is where my adapter is located. If the adapter was installed onto the valve on the compressor it would likely rub on the belt.

This car was converted when I bought it...

When you say top/front/right, do you mean "right" as in when you look at the car from the front as you open the hood, or "right" as in the right side looking from the driver's seat?

Sorry, should have been a bit more clear on that. Normally left and right side are as you are sitting in the car. In this case I was describing the locations as you would stand in front of the car and look at the front of the engine...

Understood. The adapter is going on the right side as looking from the "mechanic's point of view," the port closest to the left front fender.

That is the low pressure port on mine...
