New right side Mirror 200

I've driven my Volvo without a right side mirror for the last 17 years. I saw one in E-Bay for $7 dollars and thought I'd put it in. Now I have it it looks like I need to get the appropriate pieces to mount it on. These are the little black triangular pieces the the mirror passes through. If anybody has a 240 with a right side mirror that they are parting out I'd be interested in getting those pieces.

New right side Mirror 200 1980

I can probably help you here.

I just installed a pair of Chrome side mirrors (from the early 70's 240's) in my '80 245. They looked much much better I think.

A problem with those black mirrors that are adjustable from the inside is that the one on the passenger side doesn't seem to ever want to stay in place. I did buy a replacement mirror from a Volvo recycler, and while it was better, I still had to reach over and adjust the stupid thing every few days.

The Chrome mirrors stay in place much better, and are bigger. They also stick out of the car more then those black ones, and give you a better overall view.

If you can find a good pair of chrome mirrors, they will fit your 240. I assume you are talking about your '80 mentioned in your signature ('80, what a great year for volvo).

Anyway, that said, I would just go to a junk yard, and remove those black triangles. It's really really easy. The one on the outside can be removed by just rolling the window down, and sliding a screwdriver (flat head) inbetween the window-guide and the black piece. Lift up a bit while you do this.

The inner triangle is easily removed once the mirror is disconnected. Pull back on the door panel a bit, and use that same screwdriver to prop the piece off, from the bottom more then from the top (but still on the side of the triangle). It should come right out.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow on what pieces of the mirror goes in which half of the door and such.

But, if you do find a car in the junk yard with those chrome mirrors, PICK THEM UP! You WILL NOT be disapointed! Trust me! Don't forget to grab those triangle pieces from the junk car.

If the metal triangle is rusty, sand it down, and repaint it. I repainted mine with some high-heat resistant spray paint that I had laying around from repainting my BBQ grill. It looks excellent.

Anyway, I'll put up some pictures tomorrow.

(I would give you my old mirrors with the triangles, but I have put them on my '77 244 that came with some horrible aftermarket mirrors the previous owner put on...)

I found the mounting stuff at the junk yard. I also thought I'd have to drill a hole in the door. When I took off the old traingular stuff there was a pre-drilled hole. the mirror is in and works great. I'll keep my eyes open for the chrome. 80 is a great year.
