Transmission Conversion 200 1993

Hi Everyone

Does anyone know if there is documentation anywhere online on how to convert my '93 240 automatic tranny to Volvo stick? I would love to have a parts list and step by step procedure-and also level of difficulty...

1. Flywheel with the correct number of holes for the ignition pickup.

2. Clutch kit for either the M47 which was an option for that car or the kit for an M46.

3. Pilot bearing, rear main seal while your there, clutch cable, fork, pedal assembley.

4. Matched driveshaft, center support bearing assembley, new trans mount if using the M46.

The short answer is you need everything from the flywheel back to the differential (but not that)

Slightly off topic, but if you accomplish this project, could I have your Automatic transmission when you're done? I'd be willing to pay a small fee with whatever finances I can scrape together.

I've been looking for an Automatic-with-Lockup for some time and none of the local parts yards have one. Transportation shouldn't be a problem as I have a few friends from college who live out in your neck of the woods.

I'd be willing to do some research for you to help the conversion, but the quickest I can start is Monday. I'm working on a security and safety detail for next 4 days at the Muskegon Air Show (that starts in about 8 hours from now).

Somebody did this on the board in the last year and posted some pics. Hopefully they'll read this thread a post a link. In the mean time, here's a site to read on the topic. (but for a older series Volvo)

You also need to watch out for the correct cut-out in the bellhousing for the crank sensor, and the speedometer cable take-off, if fitted.

Is there a crank sensor in the bell housing? I thought that the computer determined the crank position based on sensor readings from a Hall sensor that's mounted in the distributor cap. Please post more info, I'm curious of the location of the crank sensor.

As for speedometer pickups, from 1975 to 1985, a mechanical speedometer was used and thus would have a cable take-off. 1986-1993 used electronic speedometers and the inductive pickup is mounted in the rear differential. As long as he's getting his donar parts from an '86 or later vehicle, he shouldn't have to worry about speedometer issues.

Also, the M47 was available starting in 1987, if that helps your search for a donor car.

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
