122S any info on this model? just purchased one, nice shape! 120-130

Hello friends;
I just purchased a real nice old 67 (?) Volvo 122S Canadian, I have not had it delivered yet, i saw it and bought it! it is real clean, just some hood damage, and minor wheel well rust in front. i am looking for model history, and any info i can find. I am searching Internet for more information on this model. I fell in love at first sight! I am a restorer and Volvo nut, but never got into any thing this old....I play mostly with 740/240 and such. I can not wait to pick it up!!! It looks new except for nose in crunched in and Front fenders are rusted at inner fender mounts, interior and every thing else is so clean. Any info on restoration projects, web pages??? Greatly needed and appreciated.

Go to the Vclassics site as well as the SWEM site. Their tech archives are a great help in dealing with the few quirks the old pushrod Volvo's have.

Dave;

Congratulations on your purchase...and welcome! Im sure you and Brett S., (owner of I believe another 122 Canadian with a zillion miles) will have lots to talk about!

There is lots and lots of model history, restoration and service help, out there!

My SwEm site* should (I hope) be interesting / helpful, but it is by no means the only one dedicated to 122 and 1800 vintage Volvos out there...I would say a search engine search for 122s, Volvo 122s, or Volvo Amazon, or Volvo 123GT, or any combination thereof, will give you enough surfing and reading material for a week!

Cheers

Across town? Heck yeah drive it home! I drove my recently acquired 544 home about 400 miles. Also drove the 58 445 about 250 miles home. I agree with Ron that it is very important for the brakes to be in good operating condition. Other than that, get in and go! Figure that the worst thing that could happen is it will die and you'll have to bring it home on a flatbed. Heck, do what I do and have the wife follow you with a tow rope in the trunk. That way you're sure to get home... and save the towing fee.

Congratulations on the new purchase!

Dave;

Only drive it home (and easy, save the high performance stuff for later!) if the brakelines look decent as far as rust goes, AND the car passes an around-the-block-test (including several hard stops) AND if the e-brake is adjusted and works well...a single hydraulic brake system of unknown condition has NO back-up except the e-brake. If it should fail for whatever reason, it could turn this nice experience into a very bad day! Before this around-the-block-test, obviously, check and top up all fluid levels, and during roadtest keep and eye on temp guage to verify thermostat is opening to keep temp under control...things can get sluggish after prolonged nonrunning.

My friend went with me today to look at the car today and said it was real solid...Underbody is real clean, odometer says 26k miles, but who knows.
somebody took good care of this beauty. I am going to have it towed tommarow (flat bed). Looks like engine and drive train are re-built. The frame and underbody look new :) ...I am going to be looking for a front clip I guess, I hear they are not to hard to find.
