960 with transmission fault 900

I am looking at a 960 3.0 24v with full spec in good condition. It is a 1992 with 207k and is going for 800 dollars with a faulty transmission. I have yet to see the car but have been told that it keeps going in and out of gear although it does allegedly drive. Is this is a common fault, any ideas what it could be? I am thinking new gearbox, how much would that cost me?

I have seen these transissions on eBay for not very much, but shipping to Belgium might not make that cost effective. It might be worth finding out shipping costs.

It could be as simple as a bad electrical connection or a bad hydraulic solenoid, both easy fixes. These transmissions are especially susceptible to poor electrical connections.

I'd be pretty cautious here. If it's a bad transmission (very possible, if not probable)the cost of a rebuilt unit is going to bring your final cost beyond what the car is worth.

I would go with a used transmission if the rest of the car is ok. If not I would suspect the lip seals in the transmission, which means the tranny needs to be rebuilt. I think tho for the miles it would be better to put in a used one and use synthetic fluid. Just my two.
