Turbo Hoses Made By MTC - My Opinion 700 1989

The AMM to turbo hose on my brick has had a leak for quite some time, which I have been patching up with duct tape. I finally got around to buying and installing a replacement hose, made by MTC. Here's my take:

Bottom line first: don't buy it. Yes, the material is sturdy and feels like OEM, but - and this is a major (pain in the..) BUT - the dimensions aren't the same as the factory hose. It's shorter. What happens when you try to pry this hose to the end of your AMM, as happened in my case, is that you ruin the outer shell of your AMM. As you fit the hose end onto the AMM and tighten the clasps, inevitably either the hose will slip off (which happened like 6 times to me) or the outer AMM shell begins to crack (how do I know???). Resulting in much greater damadge than before.

The only way I got the hose to stay there was to lift the entire air box housing, up to the point where it interfered with the turbo to intercooler hose and with the body chassis, and find a way to make sure it stays there and doesn't put too much pressure on the new hose, clasp, and AMM. I think I may have found a sweet spot, as the hose seems to be staying where it should be, but time will tell.

It seems like Scan-Tech revisited: either the item fits but is made of crap material, or it's made of the right stuff but won't fit.

I now have a cracked AMM, a hose threatning to slip off, and a pair of REALLY aching hands. It ain't worth the extra dollars you're saving. Either get a new OEM hose or pull one from a yard. That's my honest opinion.

Had to use some muscle to get some of the MTC hoses on. They seem a bit short but of all mine did fit. And they have never come off. Make you sure you clamp them with new clamps that actually hold tight. I did all my hoses with MTC.. no probs so far.

I second that opinion. Was your nipple that the PCV breather hose attaches to the right size ( mine's a Garret)? The nipple was smaller and the breahter hoses didn't attach to it snug. I ended up not using it.

I also tried the MTC intercooler outlet hose. It was an equally tight/improper fit.

Mine's a Mitsubishi turbo, and the hose has one nipple to the PCV hose. And, yes, the fit was not snug at all. I put the PCV hose on it anyways, and so far it's held up.
